About twelve years ago, I was fed up with shipping works back and forth from the Netherlands to the United States for the many group exhibits I participated in. So, I decided to find a gallery owner who would collect the works in the US. From there the works would be shipped to the exhibits at a much more reasonable rate, and without having to deal with US Customs.

Of course, the gallery owner would receive a percentage. I thought I deserved a medal for this truly business-oriented plan. Of course, I was fooling myself. I am the least business-oriented person alive, so most works got lost in transit and I ended up with a sizeable loss.

What bothered me more, however, was that I had little or no control over my works was presented. Below is an example of a poster for a minor exhibit in Portland. I was disgusted when I first laid eyes on it.
